Since I do enjoy shopping I was delighted to hear that JCPenney, one of America's leading retailers, has been selected by Bloomberg BusinessWeek's list of the 40 "Best U.S. Companies for Undergraduate Internships," with a ranking of 27 for 2009.
Each year JCPenny selects over 100 interns to complete 10-week internship assignments over the course of the summer. JCPenny sales management interns get an opportunity to participate in sales leadership, inventory flow, event planning and merchandise presentation.
Upon successful completion of the JCPenney Internship Program, many interns go on into the Sales Manager Trainee Program after graduation.
The internship program also affords students an opportunity to learn through self-study materials, online training courses, and remote televised classes. In addition to the training they receive doing actual work for the company, they also have the chance to improve their knowledge and skills through informal training programs that are offered throughout the internship.
Students develop strong business skills by completing an internship with JCPenney that they will be able to use in any corporate or retail environment. Although the internship is just the beginning, it provides student participants with much of the knowledge and skills they will need to achieve future success in the field of business.

If you are a new graduate or have just joined the ranks of the unemployed, internships may be the answer. Internships are a way to gain new knowledge and skills and many times organizations select from their current interns for any full-time job openings that come up.
Recently the LaHainaNews.com in West Maui, Hawaii, ran an article on the DLIR Volunteer Internship Program. The program allows for unemployment insurance claimants to gain experience by doing internships at local businesses in the area. The program is hoping to provide Hawaii's unemployed with new skills in hopes of helping them to return to work sooner.
