Let's talk resumes. If you are a first year or sophomore student, you will still need to do a resume if you are hoping to get a summer internship. "But I have nothing to put on a resume," you might say. I hear this all the time from students who are in their first two years of college and who have only had jobs like waitressing, food prep, babysitting or caddying.
The good news is that you can still include important information from high school. You can also include relevant coursework on your resume. What about your co-curricular activities and your volunteer experiences. Sure, they can go on there as well. The important thing is to sit down and write down all of your experiences for approximately the last four years. Organize your information and then put it in a format that's appealing and makes sense to employers. Once you complete your resume, you'll be glad you did. From now on, all you will have to do is update any new information or experiences that will help to make your resume stronger.

Are you still undecided about what you want to do after graduation? Are you thinking of going to graduate school or maybe traveling across Europe, Southeast Asia, or the United States? How about doing an internship, summer job, or signing up to volunteer at an organization that sparks your interest to gain additional experience and increase your knowledge and skills?
These are all valid and legitimate questions for students getting ready to graduate and even for those undergraduate students who have not yet confirmed a job or internship for the summer. Gaining experience in a career field of interest always is a smart choice. Learning new skills and making yourself more marketable is looked on favorably by employers. Even if you are not sure what you want to do once you graduate, exploring career options will put you in a better place and will assist you in making a more informed decision when you actually begin your job search.
So, if you're not sure what you're doing for the summer or what you want to pursue after graduation, consider starting your search by doing a thorough self-assessment and conducting research on career options; then try landing a summer job, volunteer experience, or internship to gain skills and add additional experience to your resume.

If you would like to do an
internship abroad this summer, be sure to give yourself time to research options to ensure you select a program that's right for you. Each year more and more
abroad programs become available; and although this increases the number of options, it also can make the whole process of finding an internship abroad somewhat overwhelming.
Be sure to check out program costs and what those costs cover. Since there are a number of programs that cover food and housing, you will want to add up all of the incidentals prior to making a commitment. Since internships abroad are often described as the experience of a lifetime, the time you spend planning is well worth the effort.
