The RISE Summer Internship Program offers unique opportunities in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering to undergraduate students from the United States, Canada and the UK. The program runs from 1.5 - 3 months and is located in Germany.

RISE interns are matched with doctoral students who will also act as mentors. The program offers opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany.

Benefits:

Scholarship recipients will receive stipends from
the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to help cover living expenses and partner universities and research institutes provide assistance with housing.

Eligibility:

  1. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in a university/college in the United States, Canada or the UK and majoring in the field of biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences or engineering (or a closely related field), Graduates and graduate students should refer to RISEpro.
  2. Prove registration as an undergraduate student for the following fall semester.

Awards:

DAAD provides a monthly scholarship of Euro 650 for a period spanning 6 weeks to 3 months (pro-rated depending on length of stay) between the middle of May and August. Health insurance is also provided along with accident and personal/private liability insurance. Students will be given assistance in finding housing through the host institution. The scholarship does not cover international travel costs.

To Apply:

All applicants must:

  1. Register online between December 7, 2009 and January 31, 2010.
  2. Applicants may apply for up to three projects.

Required Documents:

  1. A completed application form
  2. A curriculum vitae or résumé
  3. An up-to-date official university/college transcript(s)
  4. In addition to transcript, a list of courses you will have completed by the time the internship begins
  5. A letter of reference from a senior academic in your field of study
  6. A cover letter stating your motivation for applying for a particular project(s).
